Lymphatic Drainage Q&A with Rise Up Beauty Founder

Lymphatic Drainage Q&A with Rise Up Beauty Founder

Tips from a Brazilian lymphatic massage expert to help you get the ultimate summer sculpt.

Lymphatic massage – using hands, a body paddle or Gua Sha – can help with detoxification, reduce post-surgery swelling, and can even improve the appearance of cellulite!

We asked Brazilian lymphatic massage expert Domi from @riseupbeautyy for her top tips – things you can do yourself, and when you should seek out a professional.

Hi Domi, can you start by telling us how you got into this field of expertise?

I’m from Brazil, where lymphatic drainage massage is very popular. I witnessed its profound effect on individuals’ lives, and went through my own health journey dealing with inflammation and hormonal imbalances. This led me to fall in love with the practice!

What exactly is lymphatic massage and what are the main benefits?

Lymphatic massage, sometimes called lymphatic drainage massage, is a specialized technique designed to stimulate and enhance the natural flow of the lymphatic system.

Gentle and rhythmic massage targets the lymph nodes and vessels to encourage removal of waste products, toxins, excess fluid, and bacteria from our bodies. In doing so, it supports our immune system, reduces inflammation, and promotes overall wellbeing.

In certain people, for example those who have undergone surgery or who suffer from edema (swelling caused by excess fluid), it can be very effective in reducing swelling. It can also reduce the appearance of cellulite, especially when combined with the sculpting massage technique.

What is the Brazilian sculpting lymphatic massage technique?

This is a more targeted form of lymphatic massage which focuses on contouring the body and reducing the appearance of cellulite. It uses deeper maneuvers to promote lymphatic drainage in the buttocks, thighs, and abdomen. This also helps to reduce localized fat deposits and smooth the skin’s texture.

Can you share some tips on how to add lymphatic drainage into our wellness routines?

  1.     Keep things regular – depending on your individual health goals, a few professional lymphatic massage sessions each month can help promote continuous detoxification and immune support.
  2.     Try a few self-massage techniques – in between professional sessions, there are some simple techniques you can do yourself, for example:
  3.   Use a lymphatic paddle or Gua Sha to do rhythmic strokes towards your heart
  4.   Gently massage and stimulate lymph nodes in your neck, armpits and groin.
  5.   Incorporate Infrared sauna – using Infrared heat can do wonders for your lymphatic system and promote further drainage through sweating. This is why I use the Heat Healer Infrared sauna blanket with clients as part of my Brazilian Sculpting Lymphatic Body Massage treatment.
  6.   Maintain a healthy lifestyle – eating a balanced diet, staying hydrated, exercising regularly, and managing stress all complement lymphatic massage.

So, is lymphatic massage for everyone?

It’s generally safe for most people, but certain groups can benefit significantly: such as post-surgery patients, those with lymphedema, athletes, people with immune system issues, and also people with high-stress lifestyles.

There are also some contraindications – that is, people who should not have lymphatic massage. This includes people with active infections, certain cancers, and congestive heart failure. Anyone with a specific medical condition should speak with a healthcare professional before receiving lymphatic massage.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us today Domi!
