Lymphatic system 101: what does it actually do and how can we boost its function?
It protects us from infection and helps destroy abnormal cells, and when it’s not working properly we might experience fluid retention, swelling and fatigue (sound all too familiar?). Here we dive into our lymphatic system, exploring why it’s so important, and what we can do to boost its benefits.
What is the lymphatic system?
Our lymphatic system is a network of organs, vessels and tissues that work together to move fluid (aka ‘lymph’) around our bodies. It’s an essential part of our immune system, protecting us from infection and destroying old, or abnormal, cells. It helps remove waste and toxins from our body tissues and maintain consistent fluid levels.
One way to support and encourage the movement of lymph fluids is through lymphatic massage, also known as lymphatic drainage (not so sexy sounding). This is particularly beneficial for people with lymphedema, a disorder in which lymph fluid collects in certain areas of the body, such as the legs and feet, causing swelling and discomfort.
Whilst manual lymphatic drainage massage by a professional can certainly be beneficial, the effects are temporary, and it can be costly for a regular, ongoing course of treatments.
A more proactive approach to lymphatic health.
This didn’t appeal to Heat Healer Founder Lauren Dovey, who prefers to take things into her own hands with a more proactive approach to wellbeing. Her approach looks at how we can optimize key bodily functions on a daily basis, to prevent disorders from taking hold.
Taking 18 months to develop, design and test, Heat Healer’s newly launched Activated Lymphatic Onesie uses Antigravity Technology™ and graduated 3D certified compression to gently and continuously stimulate lymphatic flow towards the lymph nodes whilst you go about your day (or night). Unlike a one-time massage, the benefits increase with long-term use, providing ongoing support to a healthy lymphatic system.
Making a big impression.
The onesie is designed to make an impression - literally - as the nano-pattern pressure massage leaves temporary light impressions you can see on your skin for around 20 minutes after you remove it. Afterwards, you’ll actually notice your skin looks smoother and the appearance of cellulite is reduced.
This is because it has been proven (by no fewer than 10 clinical trials) to increase microcirculation and cellular oxygenation, thanks also to the remarkable Infrared temperature regulating textile known as Celliant.
Activate and regulate.
Celliant is what ‘activates’ the onesie the moment you step into it; this responsive textile is able to capture our body’s heat and turn it into full-spectrum Infrared energy. And yet, instead of heating you up, this innovative fabric actually helps our bodies regulate temperature better, as well as increasing athletic performance, enabling faster recovery, and promoting better sleep.
Wearers report feeling energized, and light on their feet whilst wearing the onesie, and say their skin is smoother when they take it off.
Fit check.
On top of this, there was one extra test the onesie needed to pass to meet Lauren’s exacting standards - and that was the fit test. Sleek, minimalist, and fashion-forward, the onesie will see you comfortably from high-intensity workout, to lunch with friends, followed by an international flight (or perhaps just a very long car journey).
Lauren said: “It’s no secret I love habit-stacking and multi-purpose products, so it’s been an absolute dream to bring our new activated lymphatic onesie to market - after testing its prototype on myself for nearly a year! I also love that it has cumulative benefits, which means the more often I wear it, the more it enhances my lymphatic health and overall wellbeing.”
